A beginner lesson that makes sense

You do not need to be athletic, experienced or fearless. The first goal is to understand the board, the beach and what your body needs to do. Lahiru’s team breaks the movement into small steps, watches closely and corrects mistakes in plain English.

What your 90 minutes look like

1. Meet your instructor

Tell the team honestly about your swimming confidence and any past surfing. They choose a suitable board and explain the safe area for that day.

2. Learn the pop-up on land

You practise paddling position, hand placement, the pop-up and a stable stance. There is no rush to enter the water before the movement feels understandable.

3. Catch supported waves

Your instructor stays close, helps position the board and gives one useful correction at a time. The aim is confidence and good basics—not a performance for the camera.

Intermediate or advanced?

Do not force yourself into a beginner package. Tell Lahiru what waves you can catch now and what you want to improve. He will recommend the best instructor, conditions and lesson format for your level, then confirm the price directly.

Need a ride, a room or a good local evening?

Hotel-to-surf-school tuk-tuk transport can be arranged for an additional location-based charge. Lahiru can also recommend shared dorms, boutique rooms, surf-camp accommodation, local food and current Weligama parties.
